Beauty through the eyes of the artist. BNTM Live London Excel
In this year’s edition of Britain’s Next Top Model with Elle Mcphearson , while the girls are strutting down the catwalks, the world of fashion will also be explored through the exquisite artwork of internationally acclaimed artist, Magdalena Rutkowska.
Over recent years Magdalena has gained more and more media interest partly for her advocacy in the arts (running exhibitions such as Catch in the Eye giving emerging artists a voice and the Art Minerva Project, using art to raise money for restoration works and various charities), but also for her own artwork, now held in private collections across Europe and worldwide. In the homes of celebrities and adorning the walls of places such as the Marie Curie Home and Laboratories which those days is used as a museum and venue for many cultural representatives meeting and lectures. Her strong sense of design, colour and sensitivity have many talking, even acquiring letters of appreciation from the likes of Boris Johnson and elegant Italian restaurant Bacci de Angelo.
She has since sat on the judging panels of many art competitions such as the Churchill Portrait prize alongside the likes of the Hon Celia Sandy’s and is one of the co-founders of the Barbara Hamilton Portrait Academy.
It is quite fitting that Magdelena’s work be shown co-inciding with this edition of BNTM, as fashion has also been a great passion of the artist’s, and her involvement in it has been just as active as in that of the artworld.
Magdalena designed Jewellery and other accessories as a young student and supplied it to several boutiques. She has been involved in the team leading board responsible for designing catwalk and art lay out for Leather-goods show at London Olympia during the London fashion week and the fashion part of viva la France at London Olympia previously providing art and live drawing of models on the catwalk and back stage.
She has always looked at the overall esthetic and design within things leading her to be involved in interior design within the homes of “well known” and providing artwork for movie’s and theatre sets including Talk Back (previously Thames TV) and Shepherton studios.
This exhibition will feature her latest work providing an exclusive chance to see and purchase the originals of long anticipated new work, and will prove to be one not to be missed.

London based artist Magdalena Rutkowska is fast becoming known not just for her amazing paintings but also for her big heart and generous nature. Instead of using art to simply make social comment, she takes things one step further and uses it to really make a difference.
At the Private View for the 2010 Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition on the 19th July, her work “Woman in red” sold raising quite a good sum of money for the Marie Curie Cancer Care foundation for which Prince Charles is patron. However the sale of this piece is just one of many for which Magdalena has used to raise funds for charity. Earlier this year, she also sold a limited copy of the painting “Embrace” from spirit of romance series at a Bond street auction run by the Cancer Research UK to raise money for breast cancer, as well as another being sold to raise money for the HELP IN TIME organization, which helps children with deadly illness.
Her work has also been used in campaigns for fundraising, creating a special piece to represent the Wishfulling Tree, an image now being used by the Gesar Foundation which helps children in poverty around the world.
Being a strong advocate for the arts, she became the co-founder of the ArtMinerva Organization which aims to help artists and neglected art around the world, their first project, raising money for the restoration of the historical buildings damaged in the earthquakes of L’Aquilla last year.
As an artist and tutor she is well known for a series of prestigious exhibitions. Always having a strong social conscience, trying to make a difference in the art world and give a chance to up and coming artists. This has been reflected in her organizing of the ‘Catch in the Eye Save in the Heart’ exhibitions which were a way of creating a space not only for a variety of artists to exhibit together, but also to encourage the public to open up to their own creativity.
-I am blessed with having amazing friends. There are so many people who just need a little help in order to help others- says Magdalena
