London based artist Magdalena Rutkowska is fast becoming known not just for her amazing paintings but also for her big heart and generous nature. Instead of using art to simply make social comment, she takes things one step further and uses it to really make a difference.
At the Private View for the 2010 Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition on the 19th July, her work “Woman in red” sold raising quite a good sum of money for the Marie Curie Cancer Care foundation for which Prince Charles is patron. However the sale of this piece is just one of many for which Magdalena has used to raise funds for charity. Earlier this year, she also sold a limited copy of the painting “Embrace” from spirit of romance series at a Bond street auction run by the Cancer Research UK to raise money for breast cancer, as well as another being sold to raise money for the HELP IN TIME organization, which helps children with deadly illness.
Her work has also been used in campaigns for fundraising, creating a special piece to represent the Wishfulling Tree, an image now being used by the Gesar Foundation which helps children in poverty around the world.
Being a strong advocate for the arts, she became the co-founder of the ArtMinerva Organization which aims to help artists and neglected art around the world, their first project, raising money for the restoration of the historical buildings damaged in the earthquakes of L’Aquilla last year.
As an artist and tutor she is well known for a series of prestigious exhibitions. Always having a strong social conscience, trying to make a difference in the art world and give a chance to up and coming artists. This has been reflected in her organizing of the ‘Catch in the Eye Save in the Heart’ exhibitions which were a way of creating a space not only for a variety of artists to exhibit together, but also to encourage the public to open up to their own creativity.
-I am blessed with having amazing friends. There are so many people who just need a little help in order to help others- says Magdalena

Minerva art project have kept their promise, after a successful auction last July at The Italian institute in London with the likes of designer Bella Freud and artist Jack Vettriano. Magdalena and Blandine will be back for another auction of contemporary art but this time in Venice at The Prestigious Scuola Del Vetro Abate Zanetti (Glass School Abate Zanetti) in Murano., Murano island, with the same but even stronger purpose, to keep the city of L’Aquila, and Santa Maria Del Suffragio church which was damaged by last April quake in people’s subconscious.

The big-heartedness of owner and designer Guido Ferro and Sig.Matteo Savini, Direttore dell’Istituto Venezia, made this auction possible. Let’s not forget that we are working with a non existant budget, so every time someone gives us a hand, it feels like we made a friend for life.

Talking of generosity of spirit, there are some really amazing donations from high places this time too – work from Royal painter Lady Hamilton(author of the famous portrait of John PaulII), Georgina Wilkes will get collectors and art lovers rushing in, and adding to the evening some raising stars from Italy and Europe will also take part, giving the auction the all-so-important characteristic of a very meaningful event indeed!

The Art Project Minerva, created by respected London-based artists Blandine Martin and Magdalena Rutkowska in April 2009, is a non-profit organisation raising funds for the restoration and repair of art and is been promoted greatly by the Italian Institute of culture, ArteLaguna Prize, Gesar Org (children charity), The Knaypa, Sam Flowers and many others.

Many churches and buildings in the medieval city of L’Aquila were destroyed in the devastating earthquake of 6 April 2009 causing incalculable damage to Italy’s culture heritage. The dome of the Santa Maria del Suffragio cracked open, exposing the delicate gold patterns inside.

We strongly believe that with the kind support we have enjoyed so far we will be able to provide help to restore the Di Santa Maria Del Suffragio church, an important symbol of art and culture for many generations in L’Aquila. We are looking forward to meet our special guest from Carla Bruni foundation

by magda on Jul.09, 2009, under FUNDRAISING ART-AUCTION FOR L'AQUILA AND HAITI

aquila-24
The Art Project Minerva, created by respected London-based artists Blandine Martin and Magdalena Rutkowska, has raise nearly £5000 through an organised auction of artwork at the Italian Institute of Culture in London Belgravia.

The purpose of the auction was to raise money to assist in the renovation of one of the most famous churches of the L’Aquila region, “Di Santa Maria del Suffragio”.

The auction on 2 July 2009 featured work donated by artists from L’Aquila and internationally and was supported by Italian Institute of culture,ArteLaguna Prize,The Knaypa,Sam Flowers and many other institutions.  The auction was run by Bloomsbury Auction House.  There were around 300 hundred guests, many of whom took advantage of the opportunity to buy work at a fraction of its usual price and by doing so helped to boost the total raised.

“Our auction was a great success,” said Magdalena and Blandine.  “We have had an overwhelming response from people keen to help, from artists donating their work and buyers attending the event.

“At the moment we are working on preparation for the next event which will take place in Venice, followed by a similar event in Paris and possibly New York.  We strongly believe that with the kind support we have enjoyed so far we will be able to provide help to restore the Di Santa Maria Del Suffragio church, an important symbol of art and culture for many generations in L’Aquila.”
