Welcome to CURIEOSITY, the Marie-Curie Skłodowska Festival 2011

Marie Curie biographyThe Marie-Curie Skłodowska Festival 2011 is a series of exhibitions, films and a theatrical production scheduled to take place in September 2011 in London.  Our aim is to present another side to the complicated and multi-faceted persona of Marie Curie (born Maria Skłodowska), to better understand the consequences of her life and contribution beyond just science.

Marie-Curie Skłodowska Festival 2011

LaboratoryIn 2009, the British magazine New Scientist recognised Maria Sklodowska-Curie as the greatest woman scientist of all time. This year, on the centenary of the award of the Nobel Prize to Maria Sklodowska-Curie, the Polish Senate recognised her as the honorary patron of year 2011. In connection with this, the United Nations has declared 2011 The International Year of Chemistry.

In order to celebrate the year of Marie Curie artist and curator Magdalena Rutkowska along with Steven Barfield Senior Lecturer in English Literature decided to organise an entertaining and, at the same time, educational event in a festival format.

There is something more about Marie….

There is definitely something more to Marie Curie Sklodowska ..Do you know that she was

  1. Art lover and a talented artist as well.
  2. Music lover ,she used to love dancing to the point that she completely destroyed her shoes by dancing all night!
  3. There were a few romances and scandals in Marie’s life.
  4. Lots of sadness as well…

We will try to introduce you to the softer, less known stories from Marie’s  life during our festival later this year….At the moment we are opening a debate – what do you know about Marie Curie Sklodowska?
